The Marco Polo Drive Sets Off from Rome

Under the eternal skyline of Rome, the Marco Polo Drive begins its 15,000-kilometre journey east — a continuous overland expedition for peace, connectivity and exchange.

Rome, 12 June 2026 — The Marco Polo Drive officially set off today from the Eternal City, marking the start of a 44-day overland expedition that will travel by road from Vatican City and Rome all the way to Hong Kong.

Led by Professors Jeffrey Sachs and Patrick Zhong, the Drive retraces the legendary routes of Marco Polo across twelve countries. At a global press conference and a prestigious Gala Dinner, European political, business and academic leaders gathered to mark a momentous departure from the heart of Western civilisation.

"We go together, and we go further," the founders said. "At a time of conflict and division, this journey is a reminder that dialogue, understanding and human encounter remain the strongest foundations for peace."
