Together is Further flag flying over the mountains of the Silk Road

The Drive of Peace

In June 2026, two scholars set out to cross a divided world — and prove it can still be travelled together.

Professors Jeffrey Sachs and Patrick Zhong will embark on a journey from Vatican City and Rome to Hong Kong — inspired by the enduring belief that dialogue, understanding, and human encounter remain among the strongest foundations for peace.

Retracing the routes of Marco Polo, the Drive carries forward a mission of friendship and peaceful coexistence at a time when conflict, mistrust, and division continue to shape much of the world.

Over 46 days and 15,000 kilometres across 11 countries, the expedition travels by road from the heart of Europe to the South China Sea — across deserts, mountains, and ancient trade cities — one continuous overland journey from West to East.

What the road carries.
